Tree planting also brings a couple of really important benefits for humans. Besides helping us to feel connected to nature and maybe even improving our mental health, trees are really good at doing the following:
Giving us oxygen
You need oxygen to breathe; just like every other human being. Trees help with this. They take in carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and use it to create carbohydrates to help them grow. As a result of this process, they release oxygen back into the atmosphere. On average, a mature tree can release enough oxygen to sustain two people.
Creating a quieter environment
There is no getting away from the fact that urban areas can be very noisy. This is especially the case in areas which are close to busy roads where traffic noise is a major problem. Strategic tree planting can help to reduce noise levels by several decibels. This means that trees can be useful for helping to reduce noise pollution.
And not to forget: trees store carbon!
It's clear that trees (and planting trees) are essential to the health and well-being of our planet and its people. So what can you do to help?

Helping to reduce ozone pollution
Pollution and ozone levels are major concerns in urban areas. Research shows that planting trees helps to reduce peak ozone levels and lessen pollution problems. While planting trees does not solve these problems on its own it's definitely a big help.
Reducing runoff and erosion
Trees help to reduce runoff and ground erosion by reducing the force of rain as it falls to the ground and storing water. The roots of trees and leaf litter also help to create soil conditions which improve the infiltration of water into the soil.

The secret to happiness lies in helping others. Never underestimate the difference YOU can make in the lives of the poor
